What Happens Next

Now that you want to study abroad these are the steps you need to take:

IMMEDIATELY
Apply for a passport or ensure your passport is valid for 180 days beyond the ending date of your program
  • Passport applications can be picked up at your local county clerk’s office and most post offices. Applications are also available to download from the State Department’s Website.
  • You should return the application to the nearest county clerk’s office or post office that accepts passport applications. The nearest passport agency locations are also available at the State Department website.

Application
  • Submit all application materials to CIEGE for processing. Do not submit your application directly to the program. Allow CIEGE to review your application before submitting it to the program.
  • Create a profile at CIEGE website (left hand side "Create Account")

FORMS & TASKS AFTER ACCEPTANCE

Have Courses Approved by Major Advisor &CIEGE
  • Use the Course Approval Form, available here.
  • Complete the course approval worksheet and return to CIEGE
  • A Travel Waiver Form must be completed at CIEGE
    Financial Aid Office
  • Ensure that you have completed the financial aid validation form.
      Visa Application
  • With the exception of United Kingdom and German based programs, anyone studying abroad for over 90 days will need to apply for a visa. Information on how to apply will be sent with your acceptance letter. This application, along with your passport, will need to be sent to the appropriate embassy or consulate that has jurisdiction over where you will live. CIEGE can advise you on this process.
        ISIC Card
  • You might consider getting an International Student Identification Card for the minimal insurance and discounts available at STA travel on the OSU campus.
       Purchase an Airplane Ticket
  • In most cases, you are responsible for making your own travel arrangements to and from your study abroad site. Unless you have personal travel plans before or after your program begins or ends, you should plan to arrive on the date your program begins and to return to the US on the date your program ends. You are responsible for all expenses incurred for arrival or departure not inclusive of the program dates. It is advised to shop around for the best fares.

        Wishlist
  • Create a list of all the courses you plan on taking upon your return to Otterbein University.
        U.S. Embassy/Consulate Notification
  • You may want to notify the US embassy of the dates you will be in the country and where you will be staying. Travel registration
