Academic System Grading
The academic system at American universities may be different from your home university. Unlike many universities outside the United States, your grade in an Otterbein class is not based solely on one comprehensive exam at the end of the semester. Rather, professors frequently test students for their knowledge and understanding of class material. Students are assessed through a few tests spread over the course of the semester, quizzes (short tests), and participation in class discussions.
Transcript - a written, typed, or printed copy of the courses you took in high school or college and the grades you received in those courses; transcripts include information that is considered to be the official and fixed record regarding student course taking behavior TOEFL - a test which can either be taken on a computer (computer-based), paper-based, or internet-based Quiz - an informal test or examination of a student or class usually consisting of 10-20 questions Test/Exam - the means by which professors test your ability to retain course material; there can be anywhere from 1 to 4 tests/exams during the semester
Grade SymbolsStudents must receive at least a C in their class in order to receive credit for that course. This may be different from what your home university requires, so check with your home university about how credits transfer. The following grades from letter-graded courses are included in the calculation of the grade point average (GPA). The numeric equivalents to the letter grades are in parentheses.
